In a significant development for Yemen, the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg has announced a major breakthrough following a series of meetings in Riyadh and Muscat. These meetings, which included discussions with the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al Alimi, and Houthis chief negotiator, Mohammed Abdul Salam, have culminated in a commitment by the parties to implement a series of measures. The measures are aimed at establishing a nation-wide ceasefire, improving living conditions, and resuming an inclusive political process under the auspices of the United Nations. The Special Envoy is set to work closely with the involved parties to develop a comprehensive UN-backed road map. Additionally, the road map aims to establish mechanisms for its implementation and lay the groundwork for a Yemeni-led political process under UN guidance.
