RIYADH — There was a rousing welcome for members of the Saudi team who brought laurels to the Kingdom through achieving advanced positions in the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) held at Panama Convention Center in the Republic of Panama.
Saudi boy and girl students achieved advanced positions by bagging three prizes in competitions in the fields of "Robot Programming Tasks, Future Engineers, and Future Innovators in the three-day tournament held under the theme "Connecting the World."
The Ministry of Education celebrated this remarkable feat, expressing its encouragement and happiness over the accomplishments of Saudi students.
In a statement on its X account, the Ministry of Education said: "Male and female students in the Kingdom achieved advanced positions in the final of the World Robot Olympiad by winning three positions.
"The Ministry of Education congratulates our heroes, their schools, their families, and all our partners."
The students — Mujtaba Al-Salem and Majed Al-Majed from the secondary phase of education in Al-Ahsa — have won first place globally in the field of "Programming Robot Tasks."
Secondary students — Fahd Al-Zughaibi, Abdul-Malik Al-Maliki, and Ahmed Al-Shehri — from the Riyadh Education Department bagged third position in the field of "Future Engineers."
Students Fatima Ali Al-Rasheed and Fatima Aqeel Al-Salem from Al-Ahsa Elementary Phase achieved fifth place globally in the field of "Future Innovators."
It is noteworthy that WRO is a global robotics competition for young people and this year's event in Panama attracted more than 28,000 teams from over 85 countries.
The competition consisted of four different categories such as RoboMission, RoboSports, Future Innovators, and Future Engineers.
Its main goal was to bring together young people from all over the world to develop their creativity, design & problem solving skills through challenging & educational robot competitions and activities.
The Education Ministry's keenness on ensuring participation of male and female students in this international competition comes in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, represented by the Saudi Federation for Robotics and Remote Control Sports.
This is aimed at developing their talents and abilities in the field of training in robotics, engineering, design and programming at different educational levels.
This is also aimed to enhance learning, as well as to encourage research and innovation for the future, in a way that contributes to building a creative and technologically advanced generation.
