RIYADH — In a compelling address at King Saud University, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol outlined a vision for South Korea and Saudi Arabia to reemerge as trailblazers, leading the charge in developing and spearheading new frontiers.
The remarks were part of President Yoon's four-day state visit to the Arab Kingdom, highlighting a commitment to fostering collaboration and nurturing innovation.
President Yoon underscored the pivotal role of future generations in propelling change and innovation, expressing a dedication to expanding educational opportunities for Saudi Arabian youths.
He pledged to enhance scholarships, facilitating more students from Saudi Arabia to study in South Korea and immerse themselves in the Korean language, culture, and various academic disciplines.
"The Republic of Korea government will actively support the aspirations of Saudi Arabian youths, enabling them to engage in education, research, and cultural experiences in South Korea," President Yoon stated before an audience of approximately 2,000 students.
Highlighting the historical ties between the two nations spanning over 1,000 years, Yoon emphasized the special partnership forged through past infrastructure cooperation, including South Korea's construction of highways in Saudi Arabia during the 1970s.
He acknowledged this collaboration as a crucial stepping stone for South Korea's economic development.
President Yoon pointed to the importance of cultivating talent, drawing a connection between remarkable growth achieved through innovation and a culture that respects creativity and diversity.
He noted, "The driving force that creates and practices change and innovation is all of you, the young people who are the future generation."
Addressing Saudi Arabia's youthful demographic, where 63 percent of the population is 30 years old or younger, Yoon pledged to tailor study abroad programs in South Korea to the interests of Saudi students.
This includes a focus on research in bio, medical, and renewable energy sectors, along with efforts to strengthen women's leadership.
Looking ahead, President Yoon expressed optimism about the potential for deeper relations between South Korea and Saudi Arabia through active student and expert exchanges and collaborative research initiatives.
As both nations seek to position themselves as leaders in emerging fields, the cooperative spirit outlined by President Yoon sets the stage for a renewed era of partnership and shared progress.
