MAKKAH — The Transport General Authority (TGA) has carried out more than 44,000 field inspections in Makkah and Madinah during the first 10 days of Ramadan. The field inspections were conducted with the aim of ensuring adherence to the regulations, requirements and controls of practicing different land transport activities, in addition to facilitating and securing the trips for the pilgrims. The monitoring teams recorded more than 7,000 violations in Makkah through over 31,000 field inspections, which showed a compliance rate reaching 86%. As for Madinah, more than 1,200 violations were monitored, after the team carried out over 13,000 field inspections where the compliance rate was 90%. TGA said that the violations varied between buses, trucks, and taxis. As for buses, the most notable violations were: operating buses without the driver holding a driver card, operating without obtaining a permit, and operatig buses with unusable toilets. Violations by trucks varied between operating a vehicle without getting a permit and non-compliance with the protection barriers as per the specifications determined by the relevant authorities. The violations monitored on taxis were: absence of technical equipment; not operating fare meter at the beginning of a trip and practicing the activity without holding an operating license.
