Madinah to host 43rd Al-Baraka Islamic Economics Symposium on Wednesday Abdullah Kamel highlights Islamic economy's holistic concept
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 14 - 03 - 2023

JEDDAH — Abdullah Saleh Kamel, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Al-Baraka Islamic Economics Forum, has said that the 43rd Al-Baraka Islamic Economics Symposium will outline the relationship of sustainability to the Islamic economy. He said the three-day event will highlight Islamic economy's development, characterized by a holistic concept that is rarely found in known perceptions and theories.
Abdullah Kamel made the remarks as the new edition of the symposium is set to start on Wednesday in Madinah. Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz University will host the symposium titled "Islamic economics and the genuineness of sustainability."
Abdullah Kamel affirmed that the forum has become the largest annual global platform for Islamic economics, and it is a pioneering institution whose idea began as a natural development of Al-Baraka Islamic Economics Symposium that dates back to over 40 years. Since its inception in 1981, the forum has served as a cornerstone in the development of Islamic economic work in the world from both the jurisprudence and technical perspectives, he pointed out.
Kamel noted that development does not depend on the production process only, but rather it is an integrated process that is concerned with the proper utilization of resources with equitable distribution. Therefore, it is not only an economic process, but a human process in its essence, as it aims to develop the person spiritually, materially and socially, he said while underscoring the development of society and the fulfillment of its integrated needs, taking into account its various components.
Eminent speakers and experts from within Saudi Arabia, as well as from several other countries such as the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Kuwait, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Malaysia and Indonesia will present their visions and recommendations on the subject from the perspective of Islamic economics. "The symposium on Islamic economics is an extension of the pivotal economic experiments made by Sheikh Saleh Kamel through which he developed Islamic economics from both the jurisprudential and technical aspects over the course of four continuous decades," Kamel added.
Meanwhile, organizers of the symposium urged all those who are interested in the subject or wish to attend its sessions to come forward to register for free through the official website of the symposium on the Internet (albaraka.org).
