3 quakes, one up to 4.4 magnitude, monitored in southern Turkiye
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 04 - 03 - 2023

Turkiye announced monitoring three earthquakes on Saturday, with one being at 4.4 magnitude on Richter scale in southern Turkiye, with no damage until
now.
According to a statement by Turkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), the 4.4 magnitude earthquake hit Adiyaman province.
It added that another earthquake of four magnitude hit Antakya in Hatay province and a third one with 4.1 magnitude hit Adana province.
Turkiye has been hit by a series of earthquakes and aftershocks since the devastating earthquake of 7.7 magnitude that hit southern Turkiye and northern Syria on Feb. 6.
The aftershock was felt in Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described the disaster as the worst since the 1939 earthquake of 7.8 magnitude that killed over 32,000 in the country.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated the number of people affected by February's devastating earthquake in Turkiye and Syria at about 23 million.
The death toll in Turkey from last month's devastating earthquake has risen to 45,089, the AFAD said on Wednesday, bringing the total toll including Syria to about 51,000.
The earthquake and subsequent powerful tremors injured more than 108,000 in Turkey and left millions sheltering in tents or seeking to move to other cities.
Erdogan has pledged to rebuild homes within a year but it will be many months before thousands can leave tents or container housing, and daily queues for food, and move into permanent housing.
More than 160,000 Turkish buildings containing 520,000 apartments collapsed or were severely damaged in the disaster, the worst in the country's modern history.
Some two million people were registered as having fled the region, which has been hit by more than 11,000 aftershocks since the initial quake, AFAD said in a statement.
It said it had put up more than 350,000 tents, with tent cities established at 332 places across the region. Container housing settlements were being established in 162 places. — Agencies
