Hala Al-Tuwaijri: Dialogue is key to safeguarding human rights
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 15 - 12 - 2022

RIYADH — Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC) President Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri affirmed that enriching discourse, dialogue and exchange of experiences between bodies related to human rights contribute to uniting efforts and finding constructive partnerships to maintain the highest standards in protecting human rights.
This also helps to achieve a deeper impact through the exchange of meetings, experiences, and ideas between various stakeholders, with the aim of promoting and safeguarding human rights, she said.
The HRC chief made the remarks in her opening speech at a symposium, titled "Pillars of human rights and enhanced methods", organized by the commission at its headquarters in Riyadh on Thursday.
Dr. Al-Tuwaijri said Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, and in light of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, is experiencing remarkable progress and development in various fields, including human rights.
"The state's concerns for protecting human rights are well manifested in the allocations and resources earmarked in the Kingdom's budget this year for promoting a decent life for citizens, especially for women empowerment. This keenness and concern covered all segments of society, which confirms the comprehensiveness of attention and care on the part of the government," she said.
The symposium saw fruitful discussions and presentations of specialized working papers. The first session, with the theme of "Pillars of human rights: respect, protection, and fulfillment", dealt with the security fence to protect human rights, legislation and institutions, fair trial guarantees in national systems, and the role of the Human Rights Commission in the promotion and protection of human rights.
The second session focused on the Kingdom's efforts in relief and humanitarian work, the role of civil society institutions in promoting human rights, and the importance of charitable work in the field of human rights, while the third session titled "environmental sustainability" reviewed renewable energy for a sustainable environment, and the role of human rights in environmental sustainability.
The symposium comes within the framework of the commission's efforts to enhance cooperation with relevant authorities for the purpose of supporting and promoting human rights in various fields.
