Arab Parliament, UAE welcome extension of truce in Yemen
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 05 - 06 - 2022

The Arab Parliament has welcomed extending the truce in Yemen for two additional months, calling on the international community to ensure committing to the ceasefire in Yemen and work to push all concerned parties towards the comprehensive solution.
The Arab Parliament, in a statement Sunday, referred to the pivotal role being exerted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in realizing security and stability for Yemen and alleviating the suffering of Yemenis, highlighting the importance of committing to the Saudi initiative that was announced in March, 2021, to end the crisis and reach a comprehensive political solution in Yemen.
The parliament stressed its keenness to support all efforts contributing to reaching a sustainable political solution for the Yemeni crisis and alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people, calling on all concerned parties to take swift action that leads to a comprehensive peace process and permanent settlement.
The United Arab Emirates too welcomed the announcement by Hans Grundberg, UN Special Envoy for Yemen, to extend the truce for two months in accordance with the terms of the initial agreement.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), the UAE praised efforts by the United Nations to reach a comprehensive and sustainable political solution and enhance prospects for peace and stability in Yemen and the region.
Moreover, the UAE called on all countries to support the ceasefire in Yemen and push the parties towards a comprehensive solution.
The UAE also emphasized the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in achieving stability and security in Yemen, reiterating its commitment to standing by the Yemeni people and supporting their legitimate aspirations for development and prosperity as part of its policy in support of all efforts to achieve the interests of the region's peoples.
Earlier, the Kingdom of Bahrain also welcomed the announcement by the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to extend the truce in Yemen for two additional months, in accordance with the terms of the basic agreement that entered into force on the second of April.
The Foreign Ministry appreciated the efforts of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General, and the response of the leadership of the Arab coalition to support legitimacy and the Yemeni parties with his efforts to extend the truce, which comes in the context of the initiative announced by Saudi Arabia in March 2021 to end the Yemeni crisis through a comprehensive peace settlement.
It expressed its hope that this initiative would contribute to ending the war and supporting a comprehensive and sustainable political solution to the Yemeni crisis, in order to achieve security, stability and peace throughout brotherly Yemen, and meet the aspirations of its people for development and prosperity. — Agencies
