Jeddah Mayoralty: No change in timeline of demolition of slums and random districts Disconnecting services to Bani Malik, Al-Wurood neighborhoods begin
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 22 - 05 - 2022

JEDDAH — Sources at the Jeddah Mayoralty reiterated that the rumors being circulated by some social media platforms about a change in the timeline of the demolition of the slums and random districts in the Jeddah governorate is incorrect and baseless.
Speaking to Okaz/Saudi Gazette, the sources confirmed that the mayoralty is going ahead in accordance with the previously announced schedule.
It has begun disconnecting utility services for the slum areas in the Bani Malik and Al-Wurood neighborhoods while the residents of slums in the Mushrifa and the Jamia neighborhoods were notified to vacate their dwellings in preparation for the razing work.
The targeted residents in the Aziziyah and the Rehab neighborhoods are currently being served notices, while the rest of the phases of demolition will follow in the future, the sources said.
The Committee for the Undeveloped Districts in the Jeddah Governorate has begun resumption of the work of removing 12 neighborhoods after the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr holidays, by serving first notices to the residents of the Bani Malik and Al-Wurood neighborhoods in preparation for the removal.
The mayoralty had set the timelines for serving notices for the residents of various neighborhoods that are identified for demolition.
The notice period that ended after the Ramadan and Eid Holidays included May 7 for the Bani Malik and Al-Wurood neighborhoods; May 14 for Jamia and Mushrifa neighborhoods; and May 21 for the Aziziyah and Rehab neighborhoods.
The timeline for serving notices for the residents of Al-Rawabi neighborhood is May 28 while the deadline for Al-Rabwa, Al-Montazah, and Quwaizah 1 neighborhoods is June 11 while the date for the Al-Adl and Al Fadl neighborhoods is June 16, the sources said.
It added that June 25 is the date for the Quwaizah neighborhood 2 and June 30 for the Kilo 14 district.
Before the start of the month of Ramadan, the committee had finished razing 20 slums and random neighborhoods, and then announced a halt to the demolition work until the end of the Eid Al-Fitr holidays.
The mayoralty has reiterated its commitment to the details of the time-bound implementation plan for the demolition of the slums and random districts in the governorate on the specified dates for the remaining 12-targeted neighborhoods.
It revealed that the demolishing of buildings and removal of the rubble will be completed in all the targeted neighborhoods in Jeddah by the previously announced deadline of Nov. 17, 2022.
The mayoralty aims to remove 26 neighborhoods with a total area of 18.5 million square meters, in addition to the slums located within the plots of land of the King Abdulaziz Endowment for Al-Ain Al-Aziziyah, in eight neighborhoods with a total area of 13.9 million square meters.
These neighborhoods come within the first phase of the Jeddah Redevelopment Plan, which includes 32 slums and random districts; 20 of them have been removed, and the work of notifications and disconnection of utility services is being completed to reach the stage of complete removal of the remaining 12 slums.
The Committee for the Undeveloped Districts in the Jeddah Governorate announced the continuation of its work according to the announced operational plan for the removal.
The committee clarified that the date for the removal of the slums of Bani Malik and Al-Wurood as per the executive plan is May 28, stressing that these neighborhoods come within the first phase, which includes 32 slums, while the removal of 20 neighborhoods has been completed.
The work of notifications and disconnection of services is being completed for the total removal of the remaining 12 random neighborhoods, the mayoralty sources pointed out.
The committee announced earlier a package of services from the state to citizens whose homes are being dismantled. The foremost among these services is the provision of free housing for those who have been affected by the demolition.
