Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Aboul Gheit said on Monday that he found precise determination in Lebanon to kick off the parliamentary elections upon the scheduled time, as the country is regaining its stability. He added in remarks to the media following his meeting with Lebanese President Michael Aoun, that the Arab League is ready to offer a monitoring team to observe the parliamentary elections. "We did similar steps in Algeria, Iraq, Palestine, and many other nations, and I think we will do that task," he added. The upcoming Arab ministerial meeting will be held in Beirut by the mid of this year, as Lebanon is currently chairing the Arab Ministerial Council for a period of six months, Aboul Gheit said. In response to a question regarding the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, he added, "The world should not forget the pressing conditions in Lebanon due to the Arab refugees' residing the country, and the country hosted them without any foreign support." "We discussed the Kuwaiti-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries' initiative and I have great hope for this ancient country," he added. Meanwhile, the Lebanese Presidency said in a statement, quoting the president as saying that the current conditions region wise, as well as the unrest some countries are suffering impose on the Arab nations to unite in order to face any challenges that might affect the interest of the peoples. Aoun informed Aboul Gheit that the parliamentary elections would be held on May 15, welcoming any supervision of the Arab League, the statement added.
