Published in The Saudi Gazette on 09 - 01 - 2022

Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed Bin Saeed Al Jaber, who is also the Supervisor General of Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program of Yemen (SDRPY), met at the program's headquarters in Riyadh Sunday with UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Dr. Rola Dashti.
Both sides addressed the next steps following the issuance of the UN report "Arab Least Developed Countries: Development Challenges and Opportunities", in a bid to enhance development partnership and unify development efforts in Yemen, based on the continuous support Saudi Arabia provides to realize development in Yemen.
Dr. Dashti stressed that ESCWA's partnership with SDRPY is distinguished, citing the December 2021 report launched, which included Mauritania, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, where Saudi Arabia was at the lead of providing grants to these countries, noting that the report reached a comprehensive and clear image for the least developed countries in the Arab region inspired by the next decade 2030.
She also said that the meeting tackled means to discuss contributions to and needs of these countries, mainly Yemen. It also discussed how to contribute to activating this development vision, and the partnership of the international community considered highly important to realize these goals.
In addition, it discussed how to play a role in the recovery and political, economic and social prosperity of Yemen, in addition to speaking about the development vision and international partnership in realizing this development vision for Yemen and its people.
She also noted that it is time to move from relief to development and building the Yemeni institutions and capabilities, forming an integral and important part in this stage from the grants and assistance of which Yemenis can benefit in the best way.
She pointed out that the work implemented by SDRPY in sharing and enhancing the capabilities of Yemeni public institutions is a positive step in serving the public interest of the Yemeni society and its institutions. — SPA
