KSrelief, FAO sign two agreements to ensure food security
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 17 - 11 - 2021

Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), on Wednesday met with Director General Qu Dongyu of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations at the organization's headquarters in Rome.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest in the humanitarian and relief field, mainly those concerned with the food security, nutrition and early recovery, in addition to discussing cooperation between the two sides to contribute to realizing decent living for affected and needy peoples.
KSrelief Supervisor General and FAO Director General signed two agreements, the first of which was for enhancing cooperation and providing a framework for cooperation to promote goals related to improving food security and combating malnutrition at the international level.
The agreement will pave the way for the two sides to enhance a partnership to identify the structure of the program and its goal for implementation and administration based on mutual relations that seek to help the needy and the deprived as part of a hand in hand initiative. It will also pave way for sharing knowledge and field expertise, building capacity, and exchanging invitations to participate in conferences, symposiums, workshops and exhibitions that both sides organize regarding issues of mutual interest.
The second agreement was for implementing an emergency assistance project for agricultural communities in Yemen. It aims to improve living conditions for residents who were affected by the humanitarian crisis and the coronavirus pandemic in Hajjah and Lahaj governorates of Yemen. The project is expected to benefit 24,030 individuals from Yemeni farming households who are affected by food insecurity.
The agreement seeks to improve food security and nutrition by providing instant support to farmers and most needy families in those agricultural communities.
It aims to raise livestock production through distributing fodder and salt cubes to beneficiary families that own livestock. Seeds and agricultural tools will be distributed among most vulnerable families to increase their production. They will also be offered training in agricultural produce and practices of raising livestock.
Following the signing ceremony, Al-Rabeeah expressed his happiness for being in the headquarters of FAO. He said the first agreement sought to ensure cooperation between the two sides in several fields, while the second agreement would contribute to helping many individuals in Yemen. — SPA
