Almarai's sustainability report of 2020 has revealed the initiatives and achievements of the company in the environment protection field until 2020, and the goals aimed to be achieved by 2025 in various sectors such as water, climate change, innovation, packaging, waste, and sustainable agriculture. The annual report stated that Almarai managed to increase the water recycling rate by 56 percent compared to 2019 and aims to increase water efficiency in the manufacturing, sales, distribution, and logistics sectors by 15 percent by 2025. At the level of managing innovation in the packaging field, the report indicated that Almarai managed to reduce packaging weight by 924 metric tons annually. The company aims to avoid using 9,000 metric tons of plastic packaging from entering the consumer waste stream by 2025. The report pointed out that Almarai has made significant achievements in the field of energy management, as the company was able to increase the use of solar energy by 119% compared to 2019 and decrease the consumption of car fuel by 4% through the sales, distribution and logistics department compared to 2019, and the percentage of clean energy reached 2.5%. Almarai aims to reduce energy consumption in the manufacturing, sales, distribution, and logistics sectors by 15% and increase electricity generation from clean energy sources in the same sectors to 20% by 2025. Regarding waste management, the report showed that Almarai managed to reduce the total waste generated by 15% compared to 2019. The company aims to reduce waste transferred to landfills by 50% in all management, manufacturing, sales, distribution, and logistics sectors by 2025. It is worth mentioning that Almarai recently ranked fourth globally in the list of Kantar Research Company in achieving sustainability for the environment in 2021.
