Published in The Saudi Gazette on 16 - 10 - 2021

The Arab Parliament President Adel Bin Abdulrahman Al-Asoumi has praised Saudi Arabia's efforts, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and the Crown Prince, to address the Yemeni crisis and put an end to the suffering of the Yemeni people and achieve their legitimate aspirations in security and stability, commending the return of the Yemeni government to the interim capital, Aden.
Al-Asoumi, during the Arab Parliament for the second session of the third legislative term, which was held Saturday at the headquarters of the League of Arab States, denounced the Houthi terrorist militia's continued attacks against civilian targets, economic facilities, and civilian airports in the Kingdom, as well as the persistence of this terrorist militia in its crimes against humanity and war crimes committed against the Yemeni people.
The speaker warned that the continuation of the international silence towards these crimes would encourage this militia to continue its terrorist crimes, calling on the international community to take immediate and urgent action to stop these crimes.
Meanwhile Al-Asoumi praised Saudi Arabia's efforts towards achieving sustainable development and congratulated the Kingdom's leadership and people on the launch of the "Saudi Green Initiative Forum" and the "Middle East Green Initiative Summit", slated for Oct. 23 to 25, which confirms the Kingdom's keenest to support international efforts towards taking concrete measures to combat climate change.
The speaker reiterated the Arab Parliament's constant support for the Palestinian cause, as well as its full support for the efforts of Jordan's King Abdullah II in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, in his capacity as the Hashemite custodian of these holy sites.
He also stressed the Arab Parliament's support for Egypt and Sudan in protecting their water security and refusing to prejudice their legal and historical rights in the waters of the Nile, calling on Ethiopia to engage seriously in the negotiating track, to reach a legal agreement with regards to the filling and operating of the Renaissance Dam.
On the Libyan issue, Al-Asoumi called on the Libyans to unite and uphold the country's interest, and to move forward towards holding presidential and parliamentary elections, to achieve national consensus, enhance internal security and stability, and preserve the sovereignty of the Libyan state.
Regarding the recent developments in Lebanon, the speaker urged all Lebanese parties to exercise restraint and avoid violence and escalation, to prevent the country from sliding into a vicious cycle of sectarian confrontations, calling on them to uphold the national interest of Lebanon and its people and to work together to restore internal security and stability. — SPA
