SAMF achieves world record for largest brick built F1 car
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 24 - 09 - 2021

JEDDAH — The Saudi Automobile & Motorcycle Federation (SAMF), promoter of the Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2021, has on Friday become an official World Record holder as the final brick was placed by the SAMF Chairman Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal to complete the world's largest LEGO brick build of a Formula 1 car in aid of Ehsan — Saudi Arabia's National Platform for Charitable Work.
The record was certified by Guinness World Records, whose representatives observed the successful completion of the LEGO brick build of a Formula 1 car before officially verifying the achievement.
In conceiving this charitable enterprise, SAMF ensured that the people of Saudi Arabia were able to directly participate in the build-up to the inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on the weekend of Dec. 3- 5, whilst also contributing towards a vital cause — in keeping with the country's commitment to Vision 2030 — with the goal of delivering a brighter future for all Saudi citizens.
By registering at saudiarabiangp.com/en/lego, Saudi residents were able 'purchase' a brick used in the car's construction, the proceeds of which went directly and in full to Ehsan. All donations will go towards helping to provide relief and support across Saudi Arabia's social, educational, healthcare, relief, environmental, economic, and technical sectors.
Located at the Red Sea Mall in Jeddah, the assembly of the world's largest LEGO brick build of a Formula 1 car used over 500,000 bricks and was carried out by LEGO certified professionals. As such, this provided hundreds of thousands of Saudi Arabians with the opportunity to participate and donate to this record-breaking endeavor.
To ensure their contributions are not forgotten, all contributors' names are clearly displayed on a digital screen next to the record-breaking construction, guaranteeing their historic achievement has been marked forever.
The final LEGO brick was laid this morning by Prince Khalid on what is Saudi Arabia's 91st National Day, making this incredible accomplishment even more significant for the Kingdom's residents.
Speaking afterwards, Prince Khalid shared his elation at the record-breaking achievement. "I am ecstatic to announce the completion of the world's largest ever LEGO brick build of a Formula 1 car – fully approved and certified by Guinness World Records!
"It is an indescribable feeling to be a part of not one but two world record breaking moments in the same year, with the Jeddah Corniche Circuit also set to become the longest & fastest street circuit on the planet when it makes its debut at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in December.
"This exciting project was all about giving back to our community and reflecting the true meaning & values of progress, innovation & social responsibility that symbolize modern Saudi Arabia.
"Today I feel confident in declaring that it has done so and much, much more. This incredible accomplishment has been a feat of collaboration and ingenuity bound by a collective passion to use the power of F1 to provide Saudi Arabia with a brighter future.
"To be able to showcase this to the world on the weekend of the first ever Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is an amazing achievement and I cannot wait to see what more is in store for us."
Tickets for the Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2021 are on sale now. The Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2021 will mark its arrival in style with the newest circuit in the sport estimated to see drivers reach average speeds of 250km/h, making it the fastest street circuit in the world — and in the top five fastest F1 circuits altogether!
Indeed, superstars of F1 are projected to reach top speeds of up to 322km/h as they race towards Turn 27.
Featuring no less than 27 corners, the Jeddah Corniche Circuit stretches to 6.175km in length, making it the second longest circuit on the current F1 calendar behind the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and the longest street circuit in the sport.
Additionally, three consecutive sections of the circuit have been marked out as potential DRS Zones, ensuring plenty of overtaking opportunities for the drivers throughout the race. The fact the race will take place at night under the lights will only add to the amazing atmosphere F1 fans can expect to experience in December.
