US delivers 1mn doses of Moderna COVID-10 vaccine to Tunisia

TUNIS — The United States on Friday delivered one million doses of the Moderna vaccine to Tunisia through the COVAX mechanism to help it combat the devastating coronavirus pandemic, the US Embassy in Tunis said in a statement.
According to the statement, these one million doses help fulfill the White House global vaccine sharing allocation plan announced on June 21, 2021, that prioritized an allotment for Tunisia. They also reflect the strength of the US-Tunisian partnership and demonstrates the Biden-Harris Administration's commitment to share US vaccines with the world.
"Throughout the pandemic, the US and Tunisia have been working closely to fight this virus," said US Ambassador to Tunisia Donald Blome during a ceremony at Tunis-Carthage International Airport, attended by top Tunisian officials.
"The US will continue to support the people of Tunisia throughout this health crisis. Our goal is to save lives and to get as many safe and effective vaccines to as many Tunisians as quickly as possible," added Ambassador Blome.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken tweeted on Friday, saying: "Today, the US provided one million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to help the Tunisian people via COVAX. Together, we are committed to saving lives and ending the pandemic."
Earlier this week, the US Embassy in Tunisia and the US military's Africa Command coordinated the delivery of 310 oxygen canisters containing one million liters of oxygen for immediate use at Tunisian Ministry of Health hospitals.
