CAIRO — Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has invited Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad to visit his country at the earliest as two countries seek to boost bilateral cooperation following the signing of the AlUla Declaration on Jan. 5 this year. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, who is currently on an official visit to Qatar, delivered a letter on Tuesday from El-Sisi to Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim that included an initiation to visit Egypt. The letter focuses on the positive developments with regard to Egyptian-Qatari relations, according to the spokesman of the Egyptian foreign ministry. The letter also expresses Egypt's aspiration to take further measures to advance the priority areas of bilateral cooperation to achieve the interests of the two countries and their citizens, the spokesman added. Shoukry is visiting Qatar for the first time after the AlUla agreement that ended a three-year-long boycott of Doha by Egypt along with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates The Egyptian foreign minister will participate in the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Doha on Tuesday. He will also participate in the extraordinary meeting of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level to discuss developments regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue, which will be held at the request of Egypt and Sudan following the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers, according to local media reports. He will also attend the first meeting of the Palestine Committee. On Monday, Shoukry held talks with his Qatari counterpart, Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, who is also the country's deputy prime minister.
