Published in The Saudi Gazette on 18 - 05 - 2021

The Arab Parliament President Adel Bin Abdulrahman Al-Asoumi praised the great support being provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to help Sudan and reduce the burden of its external debt, while praising the role of the Arab League in helping Sudan to overcome the difficulties and challenges of the transitional phase.
In a statement issued Tuesday, he stressed the importance of the Paris Conference to Support Sudan, held Monday in Paris, in supporting the democratic transition in Sudan, mobilizing the financial and economic support necessary to advance its economy and relieve it from its external debts, marketing its investment opportunities, and facilitating its integration into the global economy.
The Arab Parliament president said that the security and stability of Sudan is an integral part of the security and stability of the Arab world, calling on the international community and financial institutions to support the outcomes and results of the Paris conference and move quickly to exempt Sudan from its external debts.

of Paris Conference
The Secretariat General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) stressed its support to the outcomes of the Paris conference to support the transitional stage in Sudan, praising France's initiative to host this important conference and the wide participation in the event, expressing hope for the conference to meet the aspirations and ambitions of the Sudanese people in sustainable development.
OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef Bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen praised the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King, president of the Islamic Summit, to provide a grant to contribute to covering part of the financing gap of Sudan at the International Monetary Fund with $20 million, as an initiative from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to address arrears and alleviate the burdens of debts on Sudan.
The amount of $20 milllion was announced by Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan Bin Abdullah, who delivered the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's speech at the event.
The secretary general commended the support provided by member states to the transitional government of Sudan and the continuous efforts exerted to reduce the debts of Sudan, praising, at the same time, the efforts of Islamic finance institutions in supporting Sudan, mainly the Islamic Development Bank and Islamic Solidarity Fund.
Dr. Al-Othaimeen also praised the announcement of several countries and international finance institutions to consider exempting Sudan from its debts and financing economic projects, as well as the efforts of the transitional government in creating a proper investment environment in the country.
The secretary general also expressed the Organization's commitment to devoting all its potentials to support the transitional government in Sudan in harmony with the decisions of the Islamic summit and the Council of Foreign Ministers. — SPA
