Diego Maradona
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 16 - 05 - 2021

was an inspiring figure in the world of sports and had an abundant legacy in sports law, family law, personal status, and inheritance. The legend both football player and manager allegedly died due to medical malpractice. Due to the uncertain nature, the medical team responsible should share the details of Maradona's treatments.
The alleged negligence highlights the necessity for legislative development, in order to strengthen the legal course of action for medical malpractice cases as well asthe healthcare industry in general. This would ensure that healthcare institutions with the insurance sector will be held directly liable in malpractice lawsuits due to theirdirect responsibility over the patient. Additionally is the responsibility of the medical staff alongside the rest of the healthcare provider team, considering the billions in profits gained by healthcare and insurance providers.
The story of Maradona also illustrates the importance of judicial legislations beyond the healthcare sector, where judicial, legal and legislative matters overlap with social, personal, and media aspects. It demonstrates the importance of the legal specialization of legal councils, lawyers and specialists, and the extent of which the medical practice is intertwined with the legal field, insurance, media, and even inheritance laws and personal estates in cases of the death or total disability of a patient.
Tributes poured in from around the world following the death of the former player and manager. Notably was Italian club Napoli renaming their stadium in honor of their former teammate. Another wonderful gesture, Lionel Messi wore Maradona's shirt from Argentina's Newell's Old Boys, a team they both played for. Despite Maradona's doping history impacting his image as a sports personality, the world and especially the Englishmen could never forget his two goals from the 1986 World Cup final against them. The first; the infamous goal scored by hand. The second; the "Goal of the Century," arguably the most incredible goal in the world of football.
The tale of the late Maradona is a call to develop judicial legislation, and qualify judges and lawyers in line with the outlook of sectors such as healthcare, sports, culture and others.
Under the leadership of Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman, this is the development that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been taking. This is caused by the urgency to be a better country to live in through the Quality of Life program, in which sports plays an important role.
