Dr. Al-Rabiah: 9.5 million vaccine doses given; MoH keen on vaccine's quality, not quantity
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 02 - 05 - 2021

RIYADH — Minister of Health Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah said that the Kingdom has administered around 9.5 million doses of vaccines.
During his speech in a dialogue session about what has been achieved in the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the future goals, he underscored the government's keenness on the quality of vaccines and not on the quantity.
"The Health Transformation Program focuses on developing the health sector while giving independence in implementing health services programs," he said.
Dr. Al-Rabiah said that all citizens would have insurance coverage through health clusters. "Every citizen will be linked to a health cluster, and the health cluster is responsible for providing health services to citizens.
"Every citizen will have a family doctor who will communicate with him and follow up on his/her health condition as part of making available a proactive health service," he said while noting that the additional insurance coverage from the health cluster covers what is not covered by commercial insurance.
According to the minister, there have been great achievements since the launch of the Vision 2030 programs.
"In the health sector, citizens had to struggle to get an appointment, but through the Sehhaty app, we managed to put an end to this problem, as many remote services are provided, and we receive 14,000 calls daily.
"Remote medical services are also being provided, and 30,000 people receive electronic prescription, and 200,000 people daily requests to register for coronavirus vaccine appointments and they all are getting an appointment," he said.
Dr. Al-Rabiah pointed out that the Wasfaty program has so far provided about 12.5 million prescriptions within five years since its launch.
The e-service aimed to improve health services, ensures the availability of medicines for beneficiaries and facilitates their receipt from the nearest community pharmacy under contract with the ministry.
Regarding the move to privatize health facilities, the minister said that the jobs of all the ministry employees will be protected and this will help them earn better pay and perks.
