JEDDAH — The field monitoring teams of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD), in cooperation with the security authorities, received a report on Wednesday evening about a residential apartment in which nefarious activity was conducted. The apartment housed several expatriate male workers of Arab nationality, who were holding a number of housemaids illegally and making them work in an illegal manner. The Arab expatriates' act was tantamount to human trafficking. On responding to the report, accompanied by security patrols and other field security agencies, the authorities busted the location. It turned out that the residential apartment was not licensed. Hence, the necessary measures were taken in line with the powers invested in the security agencies. The pertinent penalties, in line with the regulations, will be meted out to the violators to deter them from repeating such acts. It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development is exerting great efforts in combating human trafficking through enacting legislations aimed to protect workers' rights. The MHRSD also train the proper staff to deal with the victims of human trafficking, apart from its awareness programs and campaigns in this field.
