RIYADH — The Ministry of Commerce announced that those who are involved in trademark counterfeiting face a one-year jail term or fine up to SR1 million or of both. Abdul Rahman Al-Hussein, the spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce, said that the penalty will also be slapped on all those who violate the provisions of the Trademark Law, such as those who forge registered trademarks or whoever exhibits, sells, or possesses products bearing a forged or counterfeit trademark. He said this while replying to queries through the ministry's Twitter account. Meanwhile, inspection teams from the ministry carried out 24,471 visits during the last week to monitor the compliance of coronavirus precautionary measures and preventive protocols by the commercial establishments, stores, and sales outlets in all regions of the Kingdom. The teams detected 856 violations, including allowing entry to those without wearing masks, not making available sanitizers and sterilizers in the designated areas, and not arranging the facility to measure temperatures of employees and customers at the entrances. Punitive measures have been taken against the violations.
