Houthi attacks targeting Jazan draws strong regional condemnation
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 15 - 04 - 2021

JEDDAH — Saudi Arabia's regional allies have strongly condemned the drone and missile attacks launched by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia targeting Jazan.
The Arab Coalition intercepted and destroyed five ballistic missiles and four explosive-laden drones launched by the Houthi militia toward Saudi Arabia overnight Wednesday.
Gulf allies, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, led the chorus of condemnation of the Houthi terror attacks.
In a statement on Thursday, Bahrain's foreign ministry praised the readiness, vigilance, and efficiency of the Saudi Royal Air Forces that were able to intercept and destroy the drones and ballistic missiles.
The ministry confirmed that Bahrain stands with Saudi Arabia and that it supports all the deterrent measures it takes against any side that tries to undermine its security, stability and territorial integrity.
The United Arab Emirates condemned the "systematic attempts to attack civilians and civilian objects."
In a statement released by the foreign ministry on Thursday, the UAE reiterated that these systematic terror attacks by the Houthis reflect their blatant disregard for the international community and all international laws and norms.
The ministry urged the international community to take an immediate and decisive stance to stop these repeated acts targeting the Kingdom's security, stressing that the continuation of these attacks in recent days is a grave escalation and new evidence of these militias' aim to undermine security and stability in the region.
In the statement, the UAE renewed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia over these subversive terrorist attacks and reiterated its stance against all threats to the Kingdom's security, stability, and the safety of its citizens and residents. The UAE also reiterated its support for all measures taken by Saudi authorities to maintain the country's security and stability.
The UN also confirmed that the security of the UAE and that of Saudi Arabia are indivisible, and any threat facing the Kingdom is considered a threat to the security and stability of the UAE, the foreign ministry said.
Egypt and Jordan also condemned the terrorist Houthi militia latest attacks on Saudi Arabia
In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry reaffirmed profound denunciation and total rejection of the continuation of these cowardly subversive aggressions, which represent a flagrant violation of the rules of international and humanitarian law and a direct threat to regional security and stability. "This is despite Saudi Arabia's persistent efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution to the protracted Yemeni crisis," it added.
Egypt reiterated its strong support for the Kingdom, in all measures and procedures it takes to protect its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity against these terrorist acts.
Jordan on Thursday, denounced Houthi militia's attacks targeting Jazan with ballistic missiles and armed drones.
In a statement, Dhaifallah Ali Fayez, the spokesman of the Jordanian foreign ministry, stressed Jordan's enduring and firm stance, which condemns and denounces these repeated and cowardly terrorist acts that target a civilian and vital facility to undermine security, stability and peace.
Fayez voiced Jordan's absolute solidarity with Saudi Arabia in the face of everything threatening its security and the security of its people, underlining that any threat to Saudi Arabia's security is a threat to the security and stability of the entire region.
The Arab Parliament and the Gulf Cooperation Council also issued statements on Thursday condemning the attacks
In the statement, the Arab Parliament said: "The continuing escalation and targeting of civilians in Saudi Arabia reflect the Houthis' challenge of the international law and rejection for all the political efforts to end the crisis in Yemen."
The Arab Parliament reiterated its support for Saudi Arabia on the measures taken to protect the safety and security of its lands, adding that "security of the Kingdom is a fundamental pillar of the Arab national security."
Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen in the statement praised the capabilities and professionalism of the Royal Saudi Air Defense that managed to intercept and destroy the ballistic missiles and UAVs, which spared civilians and civilian objects big losses.
He also stressed that the attempts by terrorist Houthi militias, and those who finance them and provide them with arms, to target civilian objects that are protected under the International Humanitarian Law and the attempt to target Jazan University represent a dangerous escalation and a war crime.
Dr. Al-Othaimeen also stressed OIC's support to the procedures adopted by the coalition forces to deal with the practices of the terrorist Houthi militias, in a bid to protect all civilians and civilian objects, stressing the organization's full support and solidarity with Saudi Arabia in countering terrorist crimes perpetrated by those militias. He also supported all measures and procedures that the Kingdom adopts to preserve its security and stability, as well as the safety of its citizens and residents.
