Donald Trump
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 29 - 03 - 2021

Former United States President Donald Trump has set a numerous amount of precedent since his nomination and appointment. Trump carried out his work, actions, tweets and open war against the media, institutions and leaders of the Democratic and Republican parties including Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi. In consequence, Trump was the first citizen to have two trials in Congress, one as a president and the other as a former president.
In my opinion, there is a lot to come from the life of this unique and admirable American character, with feelings of adoration and detestation from people alike. Pelosi's strong feelings towards Trump are noticeable in her comments on his innocence verdict in Congress, which led to her describing members of the Republican Party as cowards.
From a judicial and legal point of view, Trump has tested all of America's general and state laws, the Supreme Court, the US Constitution itself and judicial powers. Hence, subjecting the American community, its authorities, institutions, and deliberations to scrutiny, leading to worldwide acknowledgement of America's internal matters. This was a major lesson in the legal sector and in the work of lawyers and legal scholars, including constitutional, criminal, civil, human rights, media, and freedom of expression and protection of minorities.
Trump revealed the nature of American society and its immersion in the essence of law and litigation to the core. This placed a burden on human rights bodies such as the American Bar Association (ABA), where the former Saudi Minister of Justice and myself have had the privilege of being honorary members.
During 2020, the key lessons regarding the most important legislation as well as independence and impartiality of lawyers should be inspiring, to adhere as a subject of study and analysis. These lessons will certainly lead to legislative and judicial amendments related to constitutional and human rights authorities, as they are the basis on which people and nations focus on advancement over centuries. Therefore, Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman emphasized the importance of law based on strengthening sovereignty in the homeland.
Certainly, laws related to media, communications and technology will change because of Trump's presidency.
