GCC calls on international community to act against Houthi terror attacks
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 17 - 03 - 2021

RIYADH — The Gulf Cooperation Council on Wednesday called upon the international community to bear its responsibility toward terrorist attacks carried out by Yemen's Houthi militia and its backers.
In a communique issued following a meeting of foreign ministers on Wednesday, the GCC ministerial council condemned the attack that targeted one of the petroleum storage facilities at Ras Tanura port with a drone coming from the sea as well as the targeting of Saudi Aramco's facilities in Dhahran with a ballistic missile on March 7, 2021.
The council also denounced the continued Houthi terror attacks on Saudi Arabia, affirming the GCC's support for the Kingdom in all necessary and deterrent measures it takes against these provocative acts that target civilians, civilian objects, airports, seaports, vital oil facilities, and global energy resources.
The meeting was headed by Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al-Zayani, who is also president of the current session of the council, and attended by Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan, UAE Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Almarar, Oman's Foreign Minister Badr Bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah and GCC Secretary-General Nayef Al-Hajraf.
The ministerial council also reiterated the content of the AlUla Declaration. The council also asserted that the GCC security is indivisible based on the statute of the GCC and the Joint Defense Agreement, under which all GCC countries unite against any threat to any country of the GCC.
The council praised the GCC achievements over the past four decades, underscoring the strength and cohesion of the GCC and its steadfastness and profoundness of its accomplishments.
The council said it looks forward to entering the fifth decade with hopes to realize welfare, progress, and sustainable development to the GCC peoples as well as more achievements for the GCC countries in order to consolidate security and stability.
The council also reviewed the latest developments pertaining to the GCC joint action in addition to the political issues at the regional and international arenas.
