Riyadh-based Arab varsity holds workshop on nuclear security education and training

A two-day workshop on nuclear security education and training organized virtually by Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) in cooperation with King's College London (KCL) got underway on Monday.
As many as 115 experts from relevant institutions in the Arab countries and international organizations are taking part in the workshop.
At the outset of the workshop, NAUSS Director-General of the General Department of External Relations Khalid Bin Abdulaziz Al-Harfash stressed the importance of the event, which is being held within the framework of the strategic partnership between NAUSS and KCL.
He added that this workshop comes within the framework of the NAUSS' efforts to introduce nuclear security and means to counter nuclear terrorism, prepare highly qualified Arab human cadres in the field of combating nuclear terrorism, and exchange experiences, information, and studies in the field of education and training.
Christopher Hobbes, director of the Center for Science and Security Studies at King's College London, also gave a speech in which he praised the fruitful cooperation between the two universities in various fields of security sciences, stressing the importance of the workshop as it attracted a group of experts specialized in its field.
Chairman of the Saudi Nuclear & Radiological Regulatory Authority Dr. Khaled Abdulaziz Al Eissa in his speech stressed the importance of strengthening Arab and international cooperation to achieve security and safety.
In the second session, the culture and assessment of nuclear security, non-traditional teaching methods (case study), and nuclear security in Arab countries were discussed.
On its second day, the workshop will discuss the experience in nuclear security education and training (scientific courses), experience in nuclear security education and training (policy education courses), in addition to a roundtable on the future of nuclear security training and education in the Middle East and North Africa region.
The workshop aims to introduce nuclear security and means to combat nuclear terrorism and highlight the importance of preparing qualified Arab human cadres for combating nuclear terrorism, in addition to exchanging Arab and international experiences in education and training in the field of nuclear security. — SG
