Published in The Saudi Gazette on 02 - 11 - 2020

On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Bin Abdullah received the final Communiqué of the T20 Summit, which was organized by the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) and the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies.
The 32 recommendations in the Communiqué represented an exciting journey of international cooperation between the T20's 11 Task Forces and think tanks around the world during the whole year.
The virtual summit witnessed wide participation from 119 countries, the number of speakers reached 73 from different countries of the world, and about 2,250 registrations were recorded, in addition to more than 550,000 views of the broadcast of the summit.
This summit also ranked the highest among previous T20 summits in the number of published policy briefs, which reached 146 research summaries from 678 authors working in 464 research institutions in 62 countries, compared with 80 published policy briefs in Argentina and 104 in Japan.
The last day of the summit discussed recommendations related to empowering women and youth, enhancing the capacity of global health systems, education, technology, youth, and the future of jobs in the digital age.
Multilateralism and economic development, promoting inclusivity to empower women and youth, reducing inequalities and supporting work related to climate and environment, in addition to securing sustainable resources and leveraging technology and digitization was also discussed.
On site at the T20 Summit, T20 Chair Dr. Fahd Al-Turki expressed his happiness with the success of the Summit in performing its tasks in a challenging year, and his pride in the national talents who worked with great passion, resilience and diligence to attract this number of international attendees and participations.
"The outcomes of the T20 summit seek to reach frameworks for a future dominated by economic prosperity, sustainability and inclusiveness for the countries of the world, as the final statement of the group's summit called for the adoption of comprehensive health care coverage worldwide, coordination of government policies to reduce the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis, and the use of a circular carbon economy approach to ensuring the transition to zero-carbon energy, strengthening international cooperation for climate change, and redesigning the financial system to support the Sustainable Development Goals," Al-Turki said.
He also noted that the final Communiqué stressed the need to promote global solidarity and multilateralism in response to COVID-19 and future shocks, improve cooperation between G20 members and non-member states, reform governance, improve key functions of the World Trade Organization, and promote innovative frameworks to bridge the investment gap for a resilient and sustainable infrastructure.
The T20 seeks to create prosperity, sustainability and an inclusive economic future around the world. It includes 11 task forces, collectively forming a network for providing recommendations in the field of research and policy regarding various major cases of economic development, climate change, women and youth, technology and innovation, multilateralism, financing, food security, access to water and the methods of solving complex problems, under the presidency of KAPSARC and KFCRIS. — SG
