Aboul Gheit, Al-Safadi discuss latest developments of Palestinian situation
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 13 - 10 - 2020

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit discussed on Tuesday with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi the latest developments related to the Palestinian situation amid recent changes at the regional and international arenas.
In a press release, Aboul Gheit confirmed that the current stage necessitates exerting strenuous efforts at the Arab and international arenas for preserving the basics and pillars of the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian cause, which is witnessing a serious change within the two-state solution according to the international legitimacy and resolutions of the UN Security Council.
Aboul Gheit also affirmed that the establishment of the Palestinian state along the 4rth of June parallel with eastern Al-Quds as capital remains the goal that enjoys an international approval in addition to complete Arab consensus.
The Palestinian people's right to freedom and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders is "irreversible and non-negotiable", stressed Al-Safadi
The two asserted Arab support to the Palestinian cause and discussed the risks "illegal and illegitimate" Israeli unilateral measures pose to the two-state solution and to the possibility of realizing Middle East peace.
The talks also covered the Syrian crisis, with Al-Safadi stressing that all Arab states are united in line with Arab League resolutions. He urged the need for intensified joint Arab efforts to reach a political solution that can safeguard Syria's territorial unity and end the suffering of its people.
Al-Safadi also reiterated Jordan's support to the League, admitting that it can play a bigger role, but in the end, it reflects the common will of the joint Arab action.
For his part, Aboul Gheit praised the high-level coordination between Jordan and the League, hailing Amman's role in serving organization and boosting joint Arab action. — Agencies
