Published in The Saudi Gazette on 30 - 09 - 2020

The 23rd meeting of the Permanent Expert Group on Following up the Role of Arab Media in Confronting Terrorism began Wednesday, via video conference, at the Arab League Headquarters, under the supervision of the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Information Ministers. A number of media experts in member states and representatives of Arab media federations and organizations are participating in the meeting.
The Director of the Technical Department of the Council of Arab Information Ministers Dr. Fawzi Al-Ghwail said in a statement Wednesday that the meeting will discuss the proposal submitted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on exposing the mechanisms of extremist and terrorist organizations in the recruitment process.
It will also focus on writing about applications and experiences in the field of combating extremist and terrorist organizations' messages through media outlets, with the possibility of benefiting from the Kingdom's experience in this regard.
He stressed that the meeting comes within the framework of the Arab League's efforts to strengthen the role of Arab media in combating the phenomenon of terrorism and reducing its negative effects on the security and stability of societies.
The meeting also emanates from believing in the pivotal role that media plays in confronting terrorism and extremism and working to promote a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence and confronting everything that might incite extremism. — SPA
