The US Department of State confirmed that the Iranian nuclear program continues to pose a threat to international peace, in light of the Iranian regime's ongoing failure to comply with the conditions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and its repeated attempts to conceal its endeavors to obtain a nuclear weapon. According to Chapter Five of a recent report issued by the US Department of State on Iran, Tehran's nuclear program has been a source of great concern to the international community since its secret nuclear activities were first disclosed in 2002. The report notes that uranium enrichment capabilities being currently possessed by Iran, violate the terms of IAEA and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, yet the Iranian regimes is expanding these capabilities day by day and seeks to use them as tools for nuclear blackmail. The report of the US State Department added: The nuclear agreement concluded with Iran in 2015 failed to provide a permanent plan to deal with the destabilizing nuclear activities of the Iranian regime, and it even encouraged Tehran and made it more dangerous. According to the US State Department's report, Iran's history of denial, delay and deception in its dealings with the IAEA is repeating itself, as it has refused to fully cooperate with the Agency's requests to answer questions related to its nuclear materials and activities since July 2019, and Iran's failure to meet the standards of the IAEA raises serious questions about Iran's compliance with its guarantees and obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The report indicated that the IAEA revealed additional details in November 2019, when it discovered traces of uranium that had been chemically treated at an Iranian site that the agency had not been informed about by the Iranians. As the IAEA continues to evaluate Iran's recent interpretation of the presence of these uranium traces, Iran has so far demonstrated its unwillingness or inability to respond definitively to the agency's questions related to these activities. — SPA
