Published in The Saudi Gazette on 15 - 08 - 2020

RIYADH — Mawhiba students, who represent the various segments of this nation's creative youth, have bagged 378 international medals for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in international scientific forums and competitions, including winning gold, silver and bronze medals and certificates of appreciation, during the past ten years.
The Secretary General of the King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) Dr. Saud Bin Saeed Al-Muthami revealed this achievement recently, quoted Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Dr. Al-Muthami saluted Mawhiba's students and the nation's youth on the occasion of the International Youth Day 2020.
He said that the number of students benefiting from Mawhiba services total 161,912 from various stages of public education, distributed over its programs and initiatives related to the scientific, engineering, health and technical fields.
He added, the total number of male and female talented Saudis discovered by Mawhiba have exceeded 133,000.
The Secretary General of Mawhiba added that the Kingdom's Vision 2030 is keen about the youth and strengthening their role in developing the national economy, especially since the Saudi youth in the age group of 15-34 years form 36.7% of the Kingdom's total population.
The youth are one of the comparative advantages of the country with their creativity, talents and ambitions. The Saudi youth are one of the most important tributaries of the Vision, he stressed.
He pointed out that many bodies that have discerned the excellent standard of students sponsored by Mawhiba, have begun to attract them to join them. Examples include Saudi Aramco, SABIC, King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST), Maaden, the Saudi Space Authority, and several other Saudi universities.
The universities include Jeddah University, King Abdulaziz University and King Saud University that have created programs to attract male and female talented Saudis, among the secondary school graduates.
Dr. Al-Muthami said that Mawhiba is looking forward to more entities (universities, corporations, companies, etc.) investing in these young people, who were nurtured from an early age by Mawhiba and its local and international partners.
The Secretary General of Mawhiba pointed out that during their participation in the international Olympiads, which totaled 93 participations from 2010 to 2020, Mawhiba has won 378 global medals for the Kingdom, including gold, silver and bronze medals and certificates of appreciation, in international scientific forums and competitions.
It is noteworthy that Mawhiba has nearly 1,000 male and female students studying in the most prestigious international universities in the areas of national priority that the Kingdom needs, such as desertification and water scarcity.
Some of the gifted students have managed to open companies and pioneering projects, with a global and regional impact as well.
