Yemen's Minister blames Iran for Houthi attacks as allies rally behind Saudi Arabia
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 13 - 07 - 2020

RIYADH — Allies rallied behind Saudi Arabia on Monday denouncing the failed attempts of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia to target civilian areas in the Kingdom with drones and ballistic missiles.
Late on Sunday, forces of the Arab Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles and six drones launched by the Houthi militia toward Saudi Arabia.
Condemning the dastardly Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, Yemeni Information Minister Muammar Al-Iryani
Al-Iryani said on Monday that the terrorist attacks confirm the Houthi militia's continued escalation, implementing Iranian dictates.
The Iranian regime and its puppets in Yemen are jeopardizing the efforts by the UN and brotherly and friendly countries, Al-Iryani stressed, according to Yemen News Agency.
One of Saudi Arabia's strongest allies, the United Arab Emirates, expressed its condemnation of the attacks.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the UAE renewed its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding these terrorist attacks against civilians, standing against every threat to Saudi Arabia's security and stability, and supporting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in all measures to preserve its security and the safety of its citizens and residents on its territories.
The continuation of these attacks and threats illustrates the nature of the danger facing the region from the Houthi, and new evidence of this Houthi's endeavor to undermine security and stability in the region, the statement added.
Another strong regional ally, Egypt, denounced the terrorist attacks, expressing its full solidarity and stance with Saudi Arabia in facing any attempt to target civilians and civilian facilities. Egypt said in a statement that it said that it supports the Kingdom in all its measures to defend its lands and protect its national security.
Egypt reiterated the importance of responding to all ceasefire initiatives in order to reach a settlement to the crisis, in accordance with the GCC initiative and its implementation mechanisms, the outcomes of the comprehensive national dialogue, and the Security Council Resolution No. 2216.
Pakistan also joined the condemnation of the terrorist attacks, reiterating its full support and solidarity with Saudi Arabia against any threats to its security and territorial integrity.
Ambassador of Djibouti to Saudi Arabia also expressed his country's full solidarity and support for the Kingdom in facing these aggressive attacks.
Meanwhile, the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation strongly denounced the attacks.
The OIC Secretary-General, Dr. Yousef Bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen reaffirmed the OIC's support for the efforts of the Arab Coalition in Yemen and the OIC's full stand and solidarity with Saudi Arabia in all its actions to counter this dangerous terrorism.
The GCC Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf also condemned the attacks, saying that these repeated, deliberate hostilities by the Houthis against civilian targets inside Yemen and the neighboring countries represent a flagrant violation of international laws and norms.
Dr. Al-Hajraf condemned Iran's provision of these weapons to the Houthis in violation of the embargo imposed by Security Council Resolution 2216, which poses a threat to the security and stability of the region, and hinders a political solution to the crisis in Yemen.
