The Yemeni government welcomed the United Nations Secretary-General report on Iran on "Implementation of Security Council Resolution 2231 for (2015)" issued on June 11, 2020. The report was discussed during the open session of Security Council on June 30, 2020 under the item "Non-proliferation". In a statement Saturday, quoted by the official Yemeni news agency, the Yemeni government affirmed the need to stop all violations and abuses committed by the Iranian regime. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs cited the confirmation of the Secretary-General's report on Iran's continued involvement in the supply of weapons and ballistic missiles to the Houthi militia in Yemen, which it uses to kill Yemenis. The report also mentioned the Iranian regime's responsibility for the terrorist attacks that targeted oil refineries in Abqaiq and Khurais in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2019, threatening international peace and security. The Ministry also stressed in its statement that the continuation of these violations by the Iranian regime would undermine efforts to achieve peace in Yemen and the efforts of Martin Griffiths, UN Special Envoy for Yemen. It reaffirmed that security and stability cannot be achieved in Yemen and the region as a whole unless the Iranian regime stops its expansionist practices and supplying the Houthi militia and other militias in the region with weapons, money, and logistical support. The Ministry called on the Security Council to fully recognize its responsibility and impose pressure on the Iranian regime to stop its practices and violations of supplying the Houthi militia with weapons in flagrant violation of the relevant Security Council resolutions The Ministry also called on the UN to extend the ban on the supply of arms from Iran to maintain international peace and security. — SPA
