Qatar on Saturday reported 879 new cases of COVID-19, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 93,668, according to the Ministry of Public Health. One new death was also reported, taking the death toll to 110 in the country. Additionally, 1,153 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recovered patients in Qatar to 77,225. During the past 24 hours, 14 people have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), bringing the total number of people currently in intensive care units to 205. Currently, the active cases stand at 16,328. The ministry conducted 3,777 tests in the last 24 hours taking the total tests done so far to 345,691. Over the last week, daily case counts in Qatar have hovered around 1,000. Qatar currently has the second highest infection count in the Gulf region, according to a Reuters tally. The country is planning for the resumption of flights from low-risk countries on July 1 as well as the reopening of shopping malls and markets with limited capacity. Many of the cases are believed to be within crowded labor camps for migrant workers, according to media reports. As well as implementing standard restrictions on contact including closing shops and stopping Friday prayers, Qatar also locked down the "Industrial Area" where many migrant workers are confined. — Agencies
