Kingdom condemns stabbing incident in Reading that left 3 dead
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 21 - 06 - 2020

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed Saudi Arabia's utter condemnation and denunciation of the stabbing incident that took place in Reading in the United Kingdom that left three people dead.
The Ministry offered condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and the government and people of the United Kingdom, and wishes the wounded a speedy recovery, affirming the Kingdom's solidarity and standing with the United Kingdom against violence, terrorism and extremism in all its forms and manifestations.
Three people were killed when a man went on a stabbing rampage in the town of Reading, west of the British capital, London. The BBC quoted a security source as saying that security authorities were investigating the incident as a terrorist act.
A man from Reading was detained at the scene and has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The 25-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, remains in police custody.
Witnesses said a man went on the rampage on Saturday evening in Forbury Gardens, stabbing at random at people who had gathered in the park on a sunny summer evening.
A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that the man, who remains in police custody, is a Libyan called Khairi Saadallah.
Britain's most senior counter-terrorism police officer, Neil Basu, said a man had run into Forbury Gardens and attacked people with a knife before being detained by unarmed officers.
He said it had been declared terrorism after detectives worked through the night on the case. "This was an atrocity," Basu said.
"This was a truly tragic incident and the thoughts of Thames Valley Police are with all those who have been affected," Chief Constable John Campbell of Thames Valley Police said earlier Sunday.
"Incidents of this nature are very rare, though I know that will be of little comfort to those involved and understand the concern that this incident will have caused amongst our local community.
"Police cordons continue to be in place and are likely to be for some time as (counter terrorism police) work further to investigate this incident and establish exactly what happened."
Prime Minister Boris Johnson held a meeting today with security officials, senior ministers and police to be updated about the investigation. He said he was "appalled and sickened" by the attack and said Britain would change the law if needed to prevent any future incidents. — SPA/Agencies
