JEDDAH — The number of workers in the private and public sector firms and enterprises have totaled 8.44 million at the end of Q4 2019. According to the Short-Term Business Report, the number of expatriates in private and public sector enterprises has reached 6.48 million workers, representing 76.8% of the total, Al-Madinah Arabic daily quoted the General Authority for Statistics (GaStat) in Saudi Arabia as saying on Sunday. Meanwhile, the number of Saudis has reached 1.95 million workers, representing 23.2% of the total number of workers. According to the data, the majority of workers are concentrated in the private sector enterprises, at 96.5% of the total, equivalent to 8.14 million, while their number in public sector facilities totaled 298,300 workers, which represents 3.5% of the total. The workers are all Saudi and non-Saudi individuals, who actually perform work in the establishment with or without pay, and this includes partners and members of joint-stock companies, chairmen of boards of directors and members of boards of directors. It also includes workers with paid vacations. According to the released data, the number of private and public sector establishments reached 1.01 million by the end of Q4 2019. The establishments operating in the wholesale and retail trade accounted for 47%, with approximately 472,500 establishments. The average monthly compensations paid to workers has decreased by 1.5% to SR3,773 in Q4 2019, compared to SR3,832 during the same period in 2018. According to the General Authority for Statistics (GaStat), employee compensations means — all the dues paid to workers including salaries and wages in addition to benefits and allowances.
