JEDDAH – Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) awarded Bahra Cables Co. a new contract for SR110 million for the supply of low and medium voltage cables for to be used in SEC's projects in 2013. This is in addition to the previous contract signed between the two companies for SR400 million, bringing the total amount of cables to be supplied by Bahra Cables to Saudi Electricity Company to SR510 million in 2013. A delegation from the Saudi Electricity Company, recently, visited Bahra Cables Co. within a timetable set out by SEC to visit all national factories that signed contracts for the supply of electric cables to the company. The Saudi Electricity Company delegation was received by Engineer Talal Idriss, CEO of Bahra Cables Co. and briefed them about the work procedure and toured them in the factory facilities. Idriss expressed the company's pleasure with the confidence given by one of the major national companies, the Saudi Electricity Company, to its products . He said the company will endeavor to meet the requirements and specifications in order to maintain the confidence of its customers inside and outside Saudi Arabia. He assured that Bahra Cables products meet all international standards, and that the company got a number of accreditation certificates such as KEMA, IPH, SASO, LPCB, CSA, BASEC and others for its range of power cables. The company as well got ISO 9001: 2008 for its collection of medium and high voltage cables up to 132 kV. Bahra Cables is the first Saudi cable manufacturer to get ISO 14001: 2004, and OHSAS 18001:2007. Meanwhile, Bahra Cables participated in the 38th edition of the Middle East Electricity Exhibition, the largest and oldest exhibition specializing in power sector in the region, which was held recently in Dubai, with the participation of more than 1100 exhibitors from 60 countries around the world, where they showcased their products and services in this emerging market in need of more power. CEO of Bahra Cables said cable industry in Saudi Arabia is currently undergoing a major expansion to meet the growing demand for the implementation of major projects, as well as to meet the needs of the construction sector in general. He further noted that national companies are capable to meet about 90 percent of the Kingdom's cable needs, which are produced at the highest level and in accordance with local and international standards.
