RIYADH — Minister of Education and Chairman of the Board of Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) Dr. Hamad Al-Sheikh has issued directives to hand over 3,445 educational buildings to the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs to house workers as part of precautionary measures against the coronavirus pandemic. The directive involves 3,313 buildings belonging to 47 educational departments in various regions and governorates all over the Kingdom, and 132 buildings affiliated to TVTC. The minister's directive came following the report of a committee that was formed urgently to take inventory of the buildings that could be used as temporary shelters in all regions of the Kingdom. This is to support the plan of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs to arrange appropriate housing for workers, after having access into detailed information about each building, its location, capacity, and the available furniture inside it. Al-Sheikh stressed that all the capabilities of the ministry in terms of human and technical resources as well as buildings are being utilized to support the efforts of the state and its institutions to limit the spread of the coronavirus. "The ministry is integrating with national efforts to support everything that serves the supreme interest of the country, and work as a team to overcome the corona pandemic that threatens the lives of people around the world," the minister added.
