Saudi Arabia's humanitarian role in confronting crises affirmed
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 11 - 02 - 2020

RIYADH — The Council of Ministers on Tuesday affirmed the Kingdom's humanitarian role in supporting several countries to confront crises faced by them and stand by affected peoples around the world.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman chaired the weekly session of the Cabinet at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh.
In a statement to Saudi Press Agency following the session, Minister of Media Turki Al-Shabanah said the Cabinet emphasized the directives of the King to provide assistance, including health and medical supplies, to China to contain the spread and impact of the novel Coronavirus, noting that this comes within the framework of strong bilateral relations between the two countries and that this assistance is being supplied through King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief).
The Cabinet reviewed the Kingdom's hosting of the 39th session of the Arab Women Committee within the framework of its efforts to serve Arab issues, advance and support the status of women, their march through social and economic empowerment and their contributions to sustainable development in accordance with the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
The Cabinet welcomed the declaration of Riyadh as the Capital of Arab Women 2020, constituting a regional dimension of the Kingdom's participation with the international community in this field and at all levels.
Al-Shabanah said the Cabinet stressed the Kingdom's firm stances towards achieving global security and stability. In this regard, the Cabinet affirmed the Kingdom's support, during its participation in the Nuclear Security Conference in Vienna, for international decisions in this respect and ensuring protection of humanity and environment, as well as its concern that nuclear security be one of the main components of the infrastructure of its national project for the peaceful use of atomic energy.
This represents the Kingdom's call on the international community to reinforce all measures aimed at combating nuclear terrorism and give it more international attention in light of region's tensions and the proliferation of terrorist groups and militias, the minister said.
The Cabinet reviewed the preparatory meeting of the 47th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The Kingdom, which is chairing the 14th Islamic Summit, provides continuous support for OIC initiatives upon the directives of King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman.
The organization is the voice of the Islamic world and has been playing a pioneering role in building bonds of solidarity between Islamic countries and peoples, defending the tolerant image of Islam and confronting hate speech and all forms of extremism and terrorism.
The Cabinet approved the Kingdom's accession to the Framework Agreement for the Establishment of the International Solar Energy Alliance. The Cabinet also endorsed rainmaking program in the Kingdom.
