Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH – The Traffic Department (Muroor) in Jeddah has installed special equipment — fixed and mobile — to monitor speed limit violations. They will cover the roads used frequently by motorists. These equipment are installed in civilian vehicles belonging to the Traffic Department to detect speed limit violations between 30 and 260 kph on the major and subsidiary roads using rays on various vehicles including trucks. Jeddah Governor Prince Mishal Bin Majed was briefed on the new monitoring system in the presence of Director of Jeddah Traffic Department Maj. Gen. Salman Al-Jumay'i. Prince Mishal was also briefed on one of the department's civilian vehicles equipped with the system. He praised the (ever-improving) qualitative leaps in the Traffic Department. He called on male and female motorists to comply with the traffic regulations with the aim of preserving lives and properties. Meanwhile, the director of Jeddah Traffic Department expressed thanks to Prince Mishal for his follow-up and directives to improve performance in traffic work in Jeddah governorate and spread the culture of traffic awareness and respect for the laws by motorists. It is noteworthy that the system aims to enhance the level of traffic safety on the road, by the ideal use of modern technology and minimizing the rate of accidents, where the main cause is speeding. The computerized monitoring program installed in civilian vehicles was initially launched in Riyadh Province starting with 150 vehicles. The system has been expanded to cover all the cities and regions. The program has transferred the monitoring on the highways to a system functioning fully by artificial intelligence to monitor violations like not fastening the seatbelt and using one's mobile phone.
