Breakbulk Middle East effectively aligns with Dubai Expo 2020
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 16 - 11 - 2019

Breakbulk Middle East, the GCC's leading breakbulk and project cargo sector event, will strategically make its return to Dubai and align with the timing of the highly anticipated Expo2020. The fifth annual edition will once again be held under the patronage of Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, the UAE Minister of Infrastructure Development and the Chairman of Federal Transport Authority for Land and Maritime, and take place on Feb.25-26, 2020 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Al Nuaimi said "Breakbulk Middle East has grown to regional prominence, and the organization's global portfolio of events yield even greater potential for BBME to continually expand further with its regional reach. Next year's event should prove to serve as a momentum builder ahead of Expo2020, which will be the largest event ever staged in the Arab World. With over 190 participating countries expected at Expo2020, and millions of visitors from across the globe, the timing of BBME2020 couldn't be more fitting. The exhibition is coordinating its topics accordingly, and this is sure to reflect the UAE's vision to maintain its position as a world business leader. The entire Middle East region stands to benefit from what will surely be another successful event."
Eng. Ahmed Al Khouri, Director-General of the Federal Authority for Land and Maritime Transport, added: "The UAE has the most advanced and developed infrastructure in the region. From shipping to airports and telecommunications, the UAE is home to world-class facilities that have supported economic growth and enabled the development of business. Breakbulk Middle East has proven crucial in advancing our industry and economy even further. With Expo2020 approaching, all industries are picking up their pace to effectively continue leading and realizing this nationwide vision. We are still making continuous efforts to optimize cargo transport implementing methods of lowering operational costs while still maintaining elite efficiency, and establishing programs, which will properly nurture the next set of maritime professionals that our Emirate will rely on for future decades. Breakbulk Middle East has demonstrated a knack for effectively contributing to accomplish a similar agenda along with its own set of initiatives. There is strong optimism that next year's edition will reinforce this more than ever before, and offer tangible value en route to Expo2020."
With preparations having been long underway for Expo 2020, the turn of the new year will ring in an added urgency to finalize and solidify what will be a landmark milestone for the UAE and its respective Emirates. The government and private sectors have both made tremendous strides in recent years to catapult the UAE's elite status, and Breakbulk Middle East continues to offer added value on a yearly basis. With the success of the industry being reliant on future generations, technological development, and the drive for sustainability, both Breakbulk Middle East and Expo 2020 will serve as strong platforms to facilitate topical discussions that will ultimately transform concepts to reality.
Ben Blamire, Show's Event Director, commented on the added significance of next year's fast approaching events, saying "the hype surrounding Expo2020 has been steadily built up over the years. The event is certain to deliver, if not exceed expectations altogether. For 173 days, the world will witness Dubai like never before and this inspires and fuels our ambitions. As it pertains to Breakbulk Middle East, since our inception we have set out to surpass previous years. For the 5th edition in particular, we are looking to ramp things up in an attempt to contribute to the country's ambitious agenda and successfully lead into Expo 2020. We have worked tirelessly and strategically to prepare an agenda that will aid in this mission, and through this we have strived to ensure that the networking and discussions that take place will ultimately fulfill our vision for February's event."
He added "there are so many reasons why the 2020 edition is set to be the strongest edition of BBME. With the open conversations about technology, innovation and development there is nothing stopping the project cargo and supply chain sectors to take tangible actions in bolstering the industry's infrastructure. With prominent support from key government figures and the convenient timing of Expo2020 aligning with our own event, we are projecting a spectacular exhibition with robust results."
Leslie Meredith, Marketing Director, Breakbulk Events & Media, emphasized "we are very excited to once again be holding Breakbulk Middle East in Dubai, especially given this year's tremendous leap in attendance and strong local support. Expo 2020 provides the perfect showcase for a variety of challenging projects that we will cover at the event. It will provide invaluable lessons for complex infrastructure development not only across the region, but in Africa and Asia as well. Breakbulk Middle East will continue to grow and widen its influence. We are extremely grateful for the support of esteemed authorities such as the UAE Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, and the Federal Transport Authority for Land and Maritime, who have contributed so much to the success of this event, and continue to do so."
