DAMMAM — Health Minister Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabeeah has honored a team of organ transplant experts at King Fahd Specialist Hospital here on Sunday. The team members were able to extricate a liver of a brain-dead woman, dividing it into two parts and transplanting the lopes into two sick women. "This is a source of pride for all and is a reflection of the progress achieved by the Kingdom in the health sector," he said. The brain-dead woman was not identified but her family agreed to donate some of her vital organs to be transplanted in seven other sick persons. One lope of the liver was transplanted in a 53-year-old woman who had liver cancer and the other lope in a 30-year-old woman who was suffering from unredema. Her kidney was transplanted in a five-year-old girl, while the pancreas and the second kidney were transplanted in a 42-year old man who had chronic kidney failure and diabetes.
