IRTI publishes 5 new books with Palgrave Macmillan and Springer
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 07 - 09 - 2019

The Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI), a member of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, has published five new books with reputable international publishers during 2019, as part the Institute's initiatives for knowledge creation and dissemination in Islamic economics and finance.
Four of the books were published with Palgrave Macmillan and one with Springer. In addition, IRTI solely published one other book during the year. Comprising proceedings from international conferences, the books discuss contemporary issues in the Islamic financial industry and recommend policy actions to foster socio-economic development.
Editors of the books are mostly IRTI senior professionals, while the contributors are from research and financial institutions in various countries around the world, with diverse backgrounds in both Islamic and conventional economics and finance.
The four books published with Palgrave Macmillan are:
• Revitalization of Waqf for Socio-Economic Development (Vol. I): This book explores the various aspects of Waqf management in IsDB member countries/jurisdictions as well as in non-Muslim majority countries.
• Revitalization of Waqf for Socio-Economic Development (Vol. II): This book provides a comprehensive analysis of Waqf management and its impact on socio-economic development, specifically financial inclusion and sustainable development as well as of the legal issues in Waqf management in IsDB member countries and jurisdictions
• Islamic Finance, Risk-Sharing and Macroeconomic Stability: The book addresses various aspects of Islamic finance and the risk-sharing mechanism contributions to the overall macroeconomic and financial stability.
• Toward a Maqaṣid al-Shari'a Index of Socio-Economic Development: Theory and Application: This book deals with conceptualization of socio-economic development and shows how to measure socio-economic development in a comprehensive way.
The book published with Springer is titled Islamic Monetary Economics and Institutions: Theory and Practice. It explores theoretical and empirical issues related to monetary economics and policy in the Islamic financial system, and discusses how Islamic monetary policy affects growth, financial stability and resilience to shocks in practice.
The book published solely by IRTI, titled Public Policy in Islamic Framework: Principles and Guidelines in Policy Formulation, identifies policy measures that should be formulated based On Maqasid Al-Shariah (objectives of Shariah) by considering the importance of values, local wisdom and living traditions in specific Muslim countries.
The books are expected to be of interest to policymakers, regulators, academics, scholars and other professionals involved with the fields of economics, economic development, Islamic economics, social progress, poverty alleviation, and public policy. — SG
