JAZAN - Six people have died, including a child and a family of five in the heavy rains in Jazan which have submerged a number of houses, destroyed roads and stopped traffic. According to the Civil Defense in the southern border city, the rains were unprecedented in the recent history of Jazan ranging between 90 and 110 mm. The Civil Defense said a child was electrocuted in Abu Areesh town while five people of the same family were drowned in the valley of Masalah. It said a search was still continuing for the bodies of the five people who were believed to have died in the floods. The rains which continued for two days in Jazan have caused a power failure, destroyed roads and flooded streets with water. Many people were trapped in the valley floods and high voltage overhead wires fell down. Heavy rains also fell on Bisha and Al-Baha hampering traffic, stranding vehicles and flooding houses. Three people who were trapped by floodwater in Al-Baha were rescued by volunteers.
