Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — The Shoura Council on Sunday noted that the concerned government agencies and private institutions have failed to fulfill their commitment in implementing Article 5 of the Law of Protection from Abuse. The most glaring failure on their part is in introducing measures to prevent and combat harassment at work, Okaz/Saudi Gazette learnt from reliable sources. The Council, represented by its committee for the social, family and youth affairs, called on the government and private sectors to comply with the provisions of Article 5, which states that the concerned agencies in the government and private sectors shall adopt measures to prevent and combat harassment at workplace. The committee made several observations pertaining to some articles of the law, which had not been implemented in its first year. These included emphasizing the need to protect the victim, the informer and safeguarding their privacy. The committee also suggested incorporating some additional amendments to the law related to certain situations in which punishment shall be much more stringent such as assault on certain segments of society or harassment in places of worship. The committee also suggested the introduction of the executive regulations of the law and partial amendment in some of its articles.
