The newly opened Enjaz – Western Union Basketball Tournament is now attracting bigger crowd at its new venue, the Sport Village indoor gym (Jeddah Deaf Club) in Quoraish here. Neophyte Habitat Hotel-Lipton Tea of Mothadz Latif won over its bitter rivals Fluor Arabia of Lynn Epps & Elmer Abadin, 69-64 in a thrilling match last Friday. In other matches, Zahid PMD Reload beat Zahid CMD United B, 77-72, Rental Wizards lost to CMD United A in a lopsided match 57-37, Globetrotters, the defending champion of Zahid Group, won in an exciting game over AD Terminators 76-63 and AlMajal Servicemaster thrashed Saudi Oger-Jeddah 107-87. The event is composed of 24 bona fide teams and is principally sponsored by Enjaz (the remittance services of Bank Albilad). Other supporters of the event are Samsung Electronics-UMG, Al-Hussaini & Al-Yahya Investment Group (Seiko), Royal Brunei, CDC Holdings-Quadrillon Sales, Inc. of Elsie Chua, Giordano Fashions, Sky Freight Forwarders, Pueblo De Oro Development Corporation of Cagayan De Oro City and Cebu City, Ay Sarap & La Paz Batchoy restaurants and Amoudi Almesari Tailoring. The tournament games start from 10 in the morning up to 10 in the evening with eight consecutive games being played. It is the 27th tourney organized by the Filipino Basketball Association (FBA). Meanwhile, the FBA management announced that its next tournament will start soon after the ongoing event to accommodate the other teams who did not make it this time. Format will only be for bona fide players from banks, hotels, supermarkets, restaurants and prestigious companies.
