JEDDAH – Tashkeil marked the soft opening of “Experiment 1” here on Monday.
Yolanda Perez at Tashkeil told Saudi Gazette: “Two of the three designers, Khawla Al-Hussaini and Dalal Al-Hashash, were present at the event which was attended by eighty people. We had Lomar's head designer, Christophe Beaufays and Mohammed Al-Tayyeb, from Fab Lab in attendance last night.”
She said Tashkeil promotes artists who brought their installations here which are based on an experiment going on for four years.
Their hand bags are made in Kuwait based on inspiration from their heritage used to make modern pieces. The event is in collaboration with Maison BO-M. “A journey from Kuwait to Riyadh to Jeddah.”
“Experiment 1” is a first phase of a project initiated by three graduates from Kuwait University's Architecture School –– Fatma Al-Obaid, Khawla Al-Hussaini and Dalal Al-Hashash.
Handbags represent an expression of their design method. For those interested in fashion and architecture, the event provides an insight into the art of perseverance, undeniable talent and vogue.
Tashkeil reported that the Experiment 1's bags follow a flexible architectural blueprint that results in a certain mechanical and methodical appeal to each custom-made piece. Aesthetics are stripped down to basics, enthused and embellished, before the designers administer final quality control checks.
The designers' work from a workshop situated in Al-Rai industrial area in Kuwait, surrounded with factories that fit with the constructive tendency of the brand. The event is sponsored by photographer Ahmed Fouad.
Sofana Dahlan, CEO of Tashkeil, told Saudi Gazette: “The beauty of the event lies in the fact that everything is made in the Middle East.”
She said the artists from Kuwait have been working on the experiment for four years. “This aligns with our goal at Tashkeil which helps identifying and promoting talent.”
Sofana said she finds the artists' inspiration very unique as it comes from their deep rooted heritage.
“Experiment 1” will be held at Tashkeil (Tanween Design Boutique Showroom) from Feb.26 – March 18.
