ASTEC fetes Al Baik Tennis champs

JEDDAH — The Association of Tennis Clubs (ASTEC) in Jeddah held its awarding ceremonies for the recently concluded 4th Al Baik Team Tennis Challenge at the Golden Tulip Hotel here recently.
It was a fitting occasion as all the champions in different categories were awarded trophies for their hard-earned victories.
Opening the affair was ASTEC Chairman Randy Martin. He thanked Al Baik Foods Company Inc. through PR Manager Bassam Al-Seyofi and Marketing Coordinator Mahmoud Al-Jaber, who provided the main sponsorship for the tournament. Among the minor sponsors Martin thanked were: Deltaz Marketing (Racquet Shop) through Tony Kassis, Maher Tebakhi and Amin Malik. Words of appreciation and thanks were also given to Al-Raddadi Clinic, which provided a medical team to assist during the tournament.
As the main speaker for the ceremony, Philippine Consul General Uriel Norman Garibay talked about tennis and the benefits of exercise and how it can help in the well-being of the participants.
Taking top honors in Category C was Reem Riviera Resort – Uricane team with team captain Ronnie Organo and members Ricky Salazar, Gerardo Catalan, Ronald Mercado, Eusebio Castillo, Nelson Sta. Clara, Walid Batestil and Ramil Lorzano. The Category B2 was lorded by Red Sea Tennis Players (RSTP) team led by team captain Edwin Potestad, with teammates Vic Alvaran, Housam I-Basha, Ron Valdez, Ronnie Santos, August Talavera, Ramzi Ali, Wayne Cruz and Khalid Hisham. Another RSTP team was on top in Category B1. It was composed of captain Carmelo Nery with Benny Lazarte, Ruben Macalindong, Jojo Aran, Tony Mirasol, Randy Martin, Tonton Pana, Joel De Castro and Domelo Gesto.
In the mixed category, National Commercial Bank (NCB) bannered the Lower Mixed class with captain Sohail Hafez along with Mohammad Hamawy, Marlon Regala, Roger Dolores, Manny Dela Cruz, Adan Republica, Rey Polintan, Romvon Daligdig and Jess Labanda. In the Middle Mixed, newcomer Sarimanok pocketed the crown with Nash Mangotara steering the team composed of Alama Macapaar, Al Sammy Macapaar, Al Manarandong, Mohammad Noor Hadji Halil, Alimbsar Umpa, Ali Abbas, Lantong Patara and Faiz Bilao Amil. In the Higher Mixed class RSTP again reigned supreme with Francis Idjao (team captain), Randy Martin, Jovi Tagudin, Ricardo Ouano Jr., Abdelmeten Khoja, Vooch Maniri, Fred Masangkay and Carmelo Nery.
In the Ladies division, RATC Angels took top honors in Category C with Angie Romero, Jade Callueng-Morales, Jenny Nebrida, Jamila Panizales, Doris Navales, Angel Cananea and Thess Atienza. In the HMX category, Reem Riviera Resort with Rhoda Bangit, Malou Argarin, Carmina Miles, Nympha Sakay, Dena Aquino, Joy Sarabia and Malou Sabio was awarded the championship crown.
Special Awards for Best Doubles were given to Eusebio Castillo and Walid Batestil in Category C, Cliff Castaneda and Rommel Divinagracia in Category B2, Loy Escabusa and Fred Masangkay in Category B1. In Category LMX, it was Roel Manarang with Ramil Ramos, Al Manarandong with partner Alama Macapaar for MMX category and Loy Escabusa and Jun Miguel for the HMX category. Abdelmeten Khoja was awarded the best in singles award for the HMX category.
