Dr. Khalid Alshaibani DAMMAM — The King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Dammam (KFSHD) will host a Saudi-European oncology forum on March 6-7. Oncology experts from the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and specialists from hospitals in the Kingdom and the Middle East will attend the forum, to be held at the city's Sheraton Hotel with the support of Minister of Health Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah. Dr. Khalid Alshaibani, CEO of KFSHD, explained that the conference will probe areas of tumor diagnosis and treatment focusing on the importance of scientific, clinical and laboratory research, to which a full session and a workshop have been allocated. In addition, the conference provides a chance for exchanging experiences and information among oncologists within and outside the Kingdom in different areas of tumor treatment and diagnosis. Alshaibani said a full session will be devoted to exchanging views and experiences in the field of nursing oncology patients and discussing best management approaches of chemotherapy rooms through a workshop in collaboration with the European Society of Nursing. Dr. Medhat Fares, chairman of the Saudi European Oncology Forum and head of the Oncology Department at KFSHD, said the forum's scientific sessions will discuss scientific and clinical research on breast, colorectal and lung tumors, challenges of nursing various tumor patients, and a variety of other diseases that have been on the rise lately. In addition, the latest developments of modern scientific researches and best accomplishments of ESMO in 2012 will be elaborated. Hafez Ghanem, consultant in palliative medicine at KFSHD, said all speakers at the conference are from the ESMO, including specialized scientists in the field of cancer treatment. He also emphasized the great benefit of this forum for medical specialists and practitioners in the diagnosis, treatment and scientific and clinical research among different disciplines concerned with various tumors, palliative treatment, as well as general and oncology nursing. — SG
