Published in The Saudi Gazette on 21 - 08 - 2008

Raed won the International Elite Championship after beating Moroccan Forces Armée Royales (FAR) 4-2 in shootout at the Prince Sultan Stadium in Abha Wednesday.
The teams failed to score in the regulation period and extra time.
Al-Raed, which has recently joined the Saudi Premier League, collected seven points, after defeating Al-Karamah of Syria 2-0, Al-Ittihad 7-6 (shootout) and finally the Moroccan Forces Armée Royales.
According to the tournament format a shootout winner gets two points and the loser gets one. And if two teams have the same number of points, the winner will be decided on their earlier encounter.
Al-Ittihad also collected seven points, but Al-Raed had defeated Al-Ittihad earlier.
Tariq Al-Sharief, Majed Al-Muwallad, Abdul Aziz Al-Mofarij and Faris Al-Amri scored for Al-Raed after Zakaria Ayoub had shot straight into the hands of Moroccan goalkeeper Mostapha Madih.
Mostapha Allawi and Morad Falah scored for the Moroccan side while Abdul Razzaq Al-Nisafi shot the second kick over the bar. Al-Raed goalkeeper, Fa'iz Al-Sibai'e saved the third shoot by Al-Mahdi Bassil.
The two teams matched well in the encounter. Goalkeepers of both teams succeeded in making worderful saves, especially Faris Al-Amri of Al-Raed. Al-Raed stepped up its tempo in the second half after Abdul Aziz Al-Kaltham and Zakaria Ayoub were brought in. Al-Kaltham almost scored in the last minute but the Moroccan goalkeeper saved the powerful long shot.
In the second match, Al-Ittihad humiliated Al-Karamah of Syria 3-2.
Hasan Abbas converted a penalty kick for Al-Karamah in the fourth minute. Al-Ittihad struck twice in five minutes through Sultan Al-Nomari and Mohammed Noor.
In the 50th minute, Fahd Oudah of Al-Karamah noticed Al-Ittihad goalkeeper Mabrouk Za'id, advancing and so an intelligent Oudah floated the ball from almost the center of the field to score the second goal for his team.
In the 82nd minute, Noor sent a cross to an unmarked Naif Hazzazi who sealed the win.
At the end of the match, Prince Faisal Bin Khalid, Emir of Asir Region, handed the trophy and gold medals to Al-Raed team. Mohammed Noor of Al-Ittihad won the award for topscorer with three goals.
Goalkeeper of Al-Raed, Fa'iz Al-Sibai'e, received the best goalkeeper prize.
